10+ Times The Bible Said “Would” Instead Of “Wouldn’t” and Other Reversals

Jul 19, 2018

In a recent Helsinki press conference, President Trump sided with Putin over United States intelligence.  When many news outlets pointed out that this is actually treason, Trump quickly reversed his message and said that he actually meant the opposite of what he said.  That when he said “would” he meant to say “wouldn’t.”

This has met outrage and laughs in the media, who've called it insanity and the words of a serial liar.  But we here at The Tilted Glass did some research and it turns out the mistake is very common.  In fact, The Bible has made this mistake many times.

Here now are 10+ times the Bible has used would instead of wouldn’t, do instead of don’t, and other such double negatives.

We’ve corrected the original texts in bold below.

1. A not-so-Golden Rule

Do to others as you wouldn’t have them do to you.

4. Support for those who stutter

5. The Old Testament actually does support gays

Leviticus 18:22

6. The new 10 Commandments

You shall have other gods before me.
You shall murder.
You shall commit adultery.
You shall steal.
Exodus 20:3, 20:13-15

7. You can eat flying bugs

All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be regarded as clean by you.
Leviticus 11:20

8. Be afraid of the darkest valley

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they discomfort me.
Psalm 23:4

9. Feel free to attack and judge

Let any one of you who is with sin be the first to throw a stone at her.
John 8:7

10. Incest with mom or step-moms is fine

Do have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that wouldn’t dishonor your father.
Leviticus 18:8

11. The truth is fake news

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will not set you free.
